Kineshma Art And History Museum
Museum
The museum is one of the oldest in Kineshma District. It existed long before the October Revolution, but 1919 is considered to be the foundation year of the museum.

The museum's historical itinerary tells the story of Kineshma merchants' life. At the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries the town became prosperous and developed thanks to brisk trade. It was the merchants who were the most important men in the town. One can observe in the museum what the merchants' houses and shops looked like, how the trade was conducted, what curiosities the living rooms were decorated with and what role they played in the town's life.

The arts department presents paintings by famous Russian artists of the XIX-XX centuries: Ivan Aivazovskiy, Konstantin Korovin, Andrey Schilder and others, as well as works by Kineshma painters and temporary exhibitions.

The museum's departments are located in the heart of the town in only five minutes walk from each other. The building of the Upper Volga Merchants' Bank, where the history department of the museum is located, is one of the most spectacular in the whole town. And the art department is located in the pre-revolutionary building of the former house of charity for the poor.
