Yuryevets
In the middle of the 20th century, the oldest town in Ivanovo Region was to go under water. But Yuryevets managed to stop the sea: a three-kilometer dam was built to protect its unique monuments.
Yuryevets is located in the picturesque bend of the Volga, at the confluence of the three rivers: The Volga, the Nemda, and the Unzha. The Gorky Reservoir, informally known as the Gorky Sea, reaches its maximum width of 16 kilometers there.

Yuryevets is associated with the name of the great filmmaker Andrey Tarkovsky. Tarkovsky went to elementary school there and called this town "a homeland of childhood". In memory of the master, the opening of Zerkalo, the Andrei Tarkovsky International Film Festival, is held in Yuryevets. The house where Tarkovsky lived is a museum center now.
2
The renovated embankment has become a tribute to churches and temples that were flooded during the construction of the Gorky hydroelectric station. Yuryevets embankment was included in the rating of the ten best public spaces of 2019 according to the Afisha Daily portal.
3
The town inspired many famous artists. You can find scenes of Yuryevets in the paintings by Savrasov, Levitan, Kustodiev, Lansere, Benois, and the Chernetsov brothers.
