The Museum Of Valenki
Museum
Kineshma, Lenina Street, 20
There is everything you wanted to know about valenki (felt boots), and even a little bit more! Do you know how many kilograms of wool it takes to make one pair of valenki? And how many hours of work? What instruments does a craftsman need? Why is a wool-beating machine needed and how does it work? Why is it healthy to wear felt boots and how to choose them properly?
In this museum you will find the answers to all the questions and, of course, the boots themselves: common, fancy, painted, souvenir, tiny, huge. Anything you can imagine. There are even felt boots-chess and felt boots-record holders: the biggest ones and the tiniest ones in the world – the first ones are two thousand times bigger than the second ones.
The museum itself and its unique exhibits were created by the Sokolov family, who were famous Kineshma craftsmen.
