The Ostrovsky Theatre Of Drama
Theatre
Kineshma, Sovetskaya Street, 12
The theatre is one of the oldest provincial theatres. It was created at the end of the nineteenth century with the participation of the greatest Russian dramatist Alexander Ostrovsky's family. His widow, among other things, gave the theatre a portrait of Ostrovsky that was created by the famous artist Arkady Rylov. Nowadays this portrait is kept at the theatre's museum.

Furthermore, you can see the costumes, posters and sketches of scenery from the nineteenth century till present time in the museum. During the theatre season there are exhibitions dedicated to the history of the theatre, the fate of the actors and the staging.

The theatre season invariably opens with a staging of one of Ostrovsky's plays, and in summer there is an international festival of chamber theater forms called Ostrovsky-FEST.
