The only museum in Russia fully devoted to landscape painting. Its collection of paintings lets you see various styles and movements of Russian landscape painting from the first Peredvizhniki (Wanderers) to our days.
In the museum's collection there are works by such remarkable artists like A. Savrasov, I. Shishkin and V. Polenov. There are also paintings by Levitan's friends and students and by soviet artists. Exhibitions of paintings by contemporary artists are regularly held there.
The museum's building is the mansion of the Groshevy-Podgornovy family of merchants. It is the oldest building in the lower part of Plyos. You can see the building on Levitan's painting Evening. Golden Plyos.
