The museum is situated in a bright green building in the Neo-Russian style. Its collection of exhibits is remarkable and is worth several museums.
It is the first Russian museum devoted to life and creations of Konstantin Balmont who was a poet of the Silver Age. His belongings and lifetime publications are collected at the museum. there is even an anthology most of which copies were bought and destroyed by the poet.
The second part of the museum is devoted to history, nature and culture of Shuya District where Balmont was born. You may get interested in the museum's collections of paintings by Makovsky and Levitan, of more than 500 birds' eggs, of archaeological findings and photo archives telling you a story about the life of this provincial town at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
